CORE ISSUES

COMMISSION PROPOSES TO CO-FINANCE REGENERATION OF URBAN AREAS
On the 14th July last, the European Commission adopted the proposals for the new Structural Funds regulations for the period 2007-2013. These regulations take urban areas into consideration by stating that urban renewal, including measures for social inclusion, could be co-financed. Specifically the regulations state that the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) may be used to support “Integrated strategies to tackle high concentrations of economic, environmental and social problems affecting urban agglomerations”.
